Upper West Side 3

Platt Dana Architects renovated this classic pre-war apartment on Riverside Drive for a small family. One existing bedroom was given over to become a study off the living room. Another large bathroom was subdivided into 2 on-suite bathrooms. PDA replaced windows, walls, electrical and lighting. The apartment had multiple layers of applied moldings which PDA simplified by removing some molding and allowing other appropriate moldings to remain and be repaired. The living room, originally a large single room was split into two rooms –joined by large pocket doors- which created more than one space for relaxing. The kitchen is completely new and incorporates a much needed stacked washer dryer. The original worn-out wood parquet floor was repaired in places and refinished along with the mantle which was retained. An old-meets-new effect is achieved in this renovation with the addition of blackened steel doors.
